A café and roastery with Aussie roots downtown. Proper coffee, plus breakfast and lunch. (Formerly Dose Coffee.)

A genuinely cool roastery in Big Eddy, about five minutes from downtown. Head for 722-101 Big Eddy Road.

German bakery and café near the resort base. Fresh pretzels, cakes and pastries.

Great brewery with a taco truck parked outside — order tacos and bring them in with your beer.

Craft distillery — exactly as it says on the tin. Cocktails and small-batch spirits made on site.

A great little grocery and cheese store. Perfect if you're putting together a picnic or a snack board.

Revelstoke was a pivotal town on the Canadian Pacific Railway, so the museum is meant to be excellent. Haven't done it yet, but it's on our list for this year.

A handy lunch stop in Golden: good coffee and a simple breakfast / lunch menu. Fuel up here before the drive over Rogers Pass. (Open until mid-afternoon.)

A good way to break up the drive: a moderately steep climb from the Illecillewaet trailhead through old-growth forest to views of Mount Sir Donald and the surrounding glaciers. Far gentler than the full Sir Donald climb, from the same parking lot.

Trailhead: Illecillewaet day-use area — turn off Hwy 1 about 3 km west of the Rogers Pass summit at the Illecillewaet Campground sign and follow the road to the lot. A Parks Canada day pass is required. For an even shorter leg-stretch, the Meeting of the Waters loop from the same lot is under 2 km.
